Hey fellow scrubs and Ducati lovers. Just dragged a horde home. Not sure what's in the pile but will post pics and ask questions if any thing everyone needs see is here.
The hunt of finding parts, pieces and piles is my fav part of owning vintage bikes. Waited over a year to get at this.

Sorry Scubs.. using an I pad. Should have said I will post pics of any thing cool or unknown to me.. nothing is for sale.
So far cool stuff found is a white face tach, tach drive, green tag SS27 carb.
No M1 or M3 before numbers on the cases yet..
Just started digging in the bins.

Going through my previous stash of motors the only bikes I have staring with zero is my Mach 1 and Sebring
The strange number I found is this
51157 DM 250
Numbers are on the opposite side. Also a pic of a unknown rod..
Feed back is welcome.

The rod looks similar to SS V-twin rods with the double strengthening ribs around the big end, and all polished.
Flywheel rims look like they were polished too.
The piston is high compression.
You might find enough parts to resurrect this special machine.

The 01496 number is curious. It’s a M1 format number but the DM250 model ID should be followed by “M1”. The other curious thing is that the same number is listed in the bevelheaven registry for Ducati singles, but in that registry, it’s identified as a DM250M1, frame prefix 01508*, owner: Bill Herring. The piston in your pic is a 3-ring forged which is consistent with a Mach 1/Mark 3. The rod looks like an F3 rod just going by what’s shown in the pic, which isn’t much to go by. The F3 rod was installed in the Mach 1S, but those models were engine number 00001 ~ 00025 so this isn’t a Mach 1S engine. It might have a Mach 1S crankshaft. Or, it could be an aftermarket rod. It will be interesting to see what you discover inside that one.
89523 is probably 1965.
I would expect 02850 to be a DM350 ID.
DM250 stamped on the opposite side identifies an early 4-speed. But the engine number starting with a 5 contradicts convention. Sure it isn’t an 8?

Looks like 151157 to me, which is the format for a 200 engine number except a 200 would have an “E” preceding the number. Perhaps this is a very, very early 250 4-speed, produced before Ducati had finalized the numbering format for the 250 series. Is this engine in the chassis with the scrambler tank in your first pic?
Have you looked at the engine case set numbers on 01496 (stamped on the bottom of the cases to the rear of the sump)? Do they match?

I see Ian Falloon says that some bikes imported by Ghost Motorcycles didn't have the "E".
But the "250" rather than "200" remains a mystery ...

my (british) Diana (resp. Daytona) has frame number 80512, engine 80533 Date of registration 25.05.1965 is 4-speed.
Can you look on the bevel gears?
