It has the same lightened clutch components. I've removed the special crank since Syd Tunstall told me the original (with the F3 rod etc) only had about 1000 miles left before it might cause problems. Replacement parts for these cranks seem to be in the unobtanium category. I'm using a standard production crank now.
The bike has its original 19" Borrani rims and Oldani brakes.
There a few pictures of it in Ian Fallon's recent Ducati singles book and I've posted a few pictures of it on this forum.
Don't know if I can help much but maybe.
Regards,
Phil

The SC misidentified as “Mach 1S” originates with a Mick Walker book in which the misinformation is published. The only outwardly apparent difference between a production line Mach 1 and the Mach 1S is the special wheels. That Phil’s M1S has the same lightened clutch components as #00002 has me wondering if this clutch was also factory M1S specification rather than an H&H modification. In what part of the world did #00002 turn up? In his book, Tom Bailey relates the story of a Mach 1S that was run without oil, ruining the crankshaft. Could this be that engine? The head looks like it has been modified for a second spark plug. Any other unusual specifications?

I doubt if the clutch hub in the photo of engine #00002 was drilled by the factory. The holes in the back face of the hub overlap in one spot, and the spacing is sloppy- the factory machinists would have been more careful and would have had indexing equipment to bore the holes and keep the hub balanced- from what I've heard about H&H they would have been more careful also.

I have a couple of 19" Baruzzo rims that came from a guy who raced singles- did the Mach1/S come with steel wheels?

Rick,
Mine has the original 19" Alloy Borrani rims; I'm not an expert but I don't think these came with steel rims. They also came with a 30 mm remote float carb but I use a 32 mm pumper and keep the 30 in a box.
Here are a two pictures.

Also (for what its worth) the holes in the clutch are more even on mine.

Love your bike, Bikester! Fantastic patina and great attitude. Talk about showing the squares some class! Hope you don't 'restore' it.
Put a Mikuni on it!

For reference: Mach 1 SC

Postby JimF » Mon Oct 10, 2016 9:49 pm

I believe this is a Mach1 SC. I think there has been a lot of confusion between the M1S and M1 SC.

Whatever it is, it's beautiful. I've been told anecdotally that Ducati didn't glean a lot of racing wins from this model. This one was in New England over a decade ago and when it came up for sale unfortunately I didn't have the kind of money it would have taken to buy it. I lost out on a Porsche 904 in the early 70s for the same reason.

Thanks Phil,
I'd like to know the numbers on your Borrani rims- I have some that I don't know what they were drilled for.
Could you post a closeup of the tachometer drive cover on the engine? I'm trying to figure out where some assorted covers and tach gearboxes belong.
Your Mach1 is really nice- hope you take some detail photos some time as a reference on a rare bike.
