New Ducati(s) Owner

Hi all,

Just picked up a couple barn fresh bevel drives here in the middle of the midwest. The PO said they were 1964 250s that he bought in Illinois and brought down to Missouri in 1973 with the intention of rebuilding. Naturally they've sat for the last 40+ years (covered) so I essentially bought a pile of old steel. Looking to fashion a bike or 2 out of this mess of parts but here's what I'm working with.

The frame in back has the foil sticker on the neck with the serial number 86400 which matches one of the engines on the bench in the lower picture. It's got what I believe to be the original front forks and headlight and unless I'm mistaken this should be a 1964 250 GT based on what I've read. The rear swing arm and wheel are present but the shocks are missing (possibly on the frame in the foreground). The second frame is missing the front foil and it appears as though someone cut off the rear loop. It's got Suzuki forks and headlight on it.

And here's the pile of engines! The middle is the DM 250 86400 which matches the frame. The one on the left has the serial DM 250 90096. This second engine has the crank but is missing the piston and based on the serial it should be a 1964 Mark III but who knows! The lower on the right is very incomplete and I was told it was either a 175 or 200 but I haven't looked into it yet. Its serial is punched on the right side of the case as *E151461*. I also only have single tank and seat for the set but it's all good.

Inside the tank is relatively little rust!

Anyways, I've also got a big ol' box of parts that I think complete both of the engines and I'm pumped to get in there and see what I'm working with. I look forward to posting my progress along the way and will be looking to the community for support in getting these things back on the road!

Congratulations, great find! Those forks are probably from a '66 250cc Suzuki X-6 Hustler, a popular high-performance 2-stroke twin back in the day.

Thanks Nick, it just might be! It sure does look like it and that would explain the paint job on the front/rear fenders and possibly why the rear loop of the frame was cut off.
