I've seen pics of 250 Monza tanks (pre-'66) that have silver scallops and others that appear to have chrome scallops. The tank I got from Lance had vestiges of the original paint on the bottom. It is metallic and almost looks like foil rather than paint. Did they use some kind of faux chrome coating on the tanks for the scallops? Or an I looking at a chrome plating that is microns thick now that it has peeled away? And yes, I realize that chrome is nickel with chrome over it. This is actually yellowish, so perhaps nickel.
Thanks,
Rob

Re: 250 Monza tank finish
The scallops on the Monza tanks were chrome. The tanks with the silver painted scallops are from other models. When you strip the paint off the tank, you’ll see the tank is chrome underneath the paint. The exposed chrome often blisters from rust forming underneath the plating and peels off. The round style Monza tanks were typically painted black or metallic red. Very early Monza tanks were blue. The yellowish metallic layer you observe is probably the plating. Matt

Thanks Matt. Lance said he thought the tank had chrome on it when he put it in there.
Unfortunately, I think she is too pitted to be rechromed. By the time they make the surface smooth again, it woult probably be more like a mylar balloon.
