Type of chain

Postby aerojack7654 » Sat Feb 20, 2016 3:45 am

I know that this is a total newb question so mea culpa; I can't find anything in my manuals and in a search of the site, but what chain type (i.e.,520, 530, etc.) should I install on my 350? I bought the bike as a bunch of parts,

with no chain - I have 2 new sprockets, but before I just start buying different chains, I figure most everybody here knows?!

Thanks for helping out a new Ducati owner

For a 250 or 350:

428 will work (Japan standard).

So will 08B (British / Euro standard).

But not ANSI 40 (USA standard). It's close but has wrong roller diameter.

Unfortunately, the Japs pressed their number standard into the market (i. e. 428). I used to stay very old fashioned, because this gives us a direct information about the chain's dimensions, without looking into a reference table:

roller chain 1/2 x 5/16":

chain pitch: 1/2"
inner width: 5/16"
(roller dia.: 8.51mm)
