A leak in a Scrambler 350 1974 Telesco fork

Hello everybody,
I've replaced the internal seals of my Telesco fork but leaks appeared! Despite it is brand new seals... Do you know a provider with perfect or genuine seals for this kind of Telesco fork (especially the seals at the top just below the external circlips) ?

I have a set of Telescos that I was just this past week thinking about using. Are you in the US? If you find seals let me know, if you find them outside the US maybe you can order two sets and we'll split the international shipping? PM me.

The Telesco forks take a seal with 45 35 7 mm dimensions.
Normal oil seals usually seem to perform OK with these forks, although they were originally fitted with hydraulic seals.
These hydraulic seals do not have the coiled spring around the lip.
They should be readily available from bearing suppliers or anywhere that hydraulic plant is overhauled.
The forks are then filled with either 250cc or 280cc of 20w oil, depending on which handbook you read.

Thanks for your reply. I've ordered the seals to "Back to classics" in Netherland (I am French) but the leak appeared as soon as I've replaced them. So, either they are not seriously built, or I made mistakes when I've put them on the fork. Or maybe I've added too much oil ?
-Is there a special procedure for mounting these seals on the fork that could damage them if you don't observe it?
-Between 250cc and 280cc, do you think leaks can be caused just because of the oil quantity?

Jon, I am not eager anymore to order new seals from the same Dutch supplier. I will probably try the link suggested by JimF, in US.

No need to go all the way to the USA for fork seals :o - or even to a Ducati dealer :? ! They're only a standard seal, and Jon's given you the size. You'll be able to find them easily in Holland - go to a bearing supplier, for example. Bof! Ils sont même disponibles en France .. 8-) .

That said:
It's unlikely that you've damaged them when fitting them. Start by draining and refilling the forks with the correct amount of oil. After that ... well, fork seals can leak if the chrome on the forks is damaged, or the forks are bent ...?

My fork and its chrome are absolutely not damaged and the leak was uncomparably less big with the previous seals! So how to explain that it started leaking significantly with the new seals?

I am wondering about something else: in order to reduce the fork oscillations, I've put a thick oil. Do you think it can be the cause of the leaks ?

Hello everybody,

Do you happen to know where to find brand new Telesco fork tubes ? If there is a leak despite new seals, maybe thechrome is dented (there are some color variations on its surface)... Where to find such tubes for Telesco (Spanish model) ?

Otherwise, if it is not possible to find new Telesco fork tubes, does someone think it could be technically possible (and not expensive) to rebuilt them in loading metal then machining them?

I've had Telesco forks re-chromed and re-ground in the past.
They are not as straightforward as many other fork stanchions as the bottom bush is welded on and is a greater diameter than the stanchion itself.
This makes it more difficult to have them centre-less ground back to 35mm diameter.
It did not cost any more than having any other set of forks re-chromed, however.
The current price for a pair of forks at Philpots in the UK is about £166 (Approx 220 Euros or $250)
