Hi All,

Anyone experienced this before? The foot pegs from my 57/58 175 Sport need straightening. Is this common? Any advice on straightening (it's a shame, as I expect heat is involved, and I'm trying not to paint stuff?

Hi Kev,
I've straightened lots of footpegs over the years, but I've always used the oxy-acetylene gear to heat them first.
Once red hot they can be bent back to shape easily.
I can't see any other way of easily bending them back in line.
At least they won't show too badly if repainted as the rubber will cover most of it.

Thanks Jon,

That's what I expected to hear. Hearing it from yourself helps a lot.

Thanks,

Kev

Heating would be the safe way to bend them back, but, they were malleable enough to get bent, so you may be able to block them up in a press and squeeze them back into shape. If the trauma that caused them to bend didn't create lots of little stress fractures you may be on the right side of 'elastic limit- fibre stress- etc'- if they crack while trying to bend them cold it will create more work than heating and repainting would have. If you want to save the paint, you could give them a little press and see how much they spring back- proceed from there.
