Paint Markings on 57' 175 Sport

Hi Everyone,
Here's something that's been puzzling me for years. I have a 1957 175 Sport project that has an unknown racing history from Europe (original front wheel is off at the moment). There are some paint markings on the engine that have always perplexed me. Recently, I noticed some similar paint dabs on ISDT bikes in order to keep them from being modified during the race...then I started thinking about the Moto Giro d' Italia and other endurance races in Europe and wondered if there was a connection....or perhaps they are state of tune info for mechanics? Or? Any ideas out there?
I eagerly await any speculation and/or guessing, factual info is welcomed as well!
