Re: vin number

Ducati sure has made the model year ID difficult to determine..........??????????

My Ducati is registered with the engine number 106828. I've applied for a duplicate title in Pennsylvania and I think it was registered as a 1967, but it seems like it is more likely a 1968 model. The bike is now striped to the frame and there is no number on the frame.

It seems like this thread has inspired a lot of conversation.

Thanks to all,
Art

____ I'm quite sorry I previously stated that it must be a 1967-model ! _ At that time my (then stupefied) mind-set was that the 3rd-digit stood for mere 100s rather than the 1000s which it actually represents ! - (I guess my advancing-age may be getting the better of me, [as they say].)
__ Anyhow, it couldn't have been registered as a "1967",, since your pictured Duke is actually a 1968-model, at the oldest !

" it seems like it is more likely a 1968 model. "

____ Most-all of the 1968-models still came stock with 27mm.SSI-carbs,, so unless yours got replaced with the newer 'Square-Slide' carbs of the 1969-70 w-c.models, then it's most-likely a 1969-model.
__ Is the carb-size (of the one on your Duke) 26mm or 27-29mm ?

Duke-Cheers,
-Bob

____ Then it's fairly safe to assume that your Duke was produced in 1969.

that carb is not Original . a BD is a rubber mounted carburator . a AD could be correct .

Curiously, Eldert, it seems the 250 WAS fitted with the B series VHB. (Wonder why?). I've found the following supporting references:

1. The Edizione Definitiva of the Catalogo Ricambi for the 250 SCR.
2. The June 1970 owner's handbook (250-350 Mark 3/Mark 3 Desmo/Scrambler)
3. Motociclismo's, "Guida al Restauro ed alla Manutenzione della Ducati Scrambler".
4. The 250 photographed in Massimo Clarke's "Ducati Scrambler, Desmo e Mark 3".

Falloon dates the fitting of the VHB carb from 1969, as does Clarke who says it happened in the second half of that year. So maybe late 1969 is now looking like the correct date for your machine, Art?

____ Well certainly not all the way back to square-ONE !

" ..........Here is the carburator. I do see a rubber gasket. Dellorto VHB 26B D "

____ It indeed appears to be the same carb.model with std.manifold-mount, as on my-own stock 1970 250-Scrambler !
