Ahead of this years MotoGiro Australia, I want to flush the fork and shock oil on my Mach 1 and replace it with something thicker to provide a little more damping.

What oil do you guys recommend and does anyone know what grade oil is standard?

just looked in the factory manual and it says:
"hydraulic brake fluid or shock absorber oil. Monza uses SAE 20 wt motor oil".
In the Monza owners handbook it says "Esso coupling fluid 5420". No idea what this is. I put power steering fluid in my Monza 250, because I had some. Back in the day when I had a 450 desmo and rode it everywhere, I used ATF. Seemed OK but I wanted firmer, perhaps for no good reason, so I used Belray 20W, which also worked well and definitely seemed firmer.

Brake fluid seems very watery, from a viscosity viewpoint. I like the idea of ATF and PSF because they're at the supermarket.

Sorry have no info on Mach 1.

Thanks for the reply.

I've been going through the manuals myself and I've been trying to figure out roughly what weight the ATF and Dot3 fluid is.

Glad you've had positive results with the Belray 20wt as I was thinking of ordering some 5wt and 20wt so I can fine tune the ratio to get what I want. :D

I'll report back once I've done the fork flush.

ah, 5W and 20W, a thinking man. Excellent. Why didn't I think of that?

I will be very interested to hear what works best for you.
