mysterious n/c model

Hi all,

a young friend of mine kept a Ducati single from his father's legacy for himself. Recently, he asked me for help and advice to bring it back onto the road. As I do not know much details about the n/c models, I'd like to ask the experts here.

The bike must have been compiled from fragments of a Sebring and a lot of other italian parts; at least the engine is a 350 n/c, but with a M3 head, green/white camshaft and 29mm VHB carb. I will post some photos when the are available for me.
Strange: The engine has no number stamped at the usual location, and nowhere else. On the steering head we found:

DM350S* 4000363 and DGM 10336-OM

Can anybody unravel the bike's mystery?

Hi Ducwiz,

Until recently I had a set of New Old Stock Narrow crankcases, these had no engine number stamping. I assume this was Ducati's standard practice for selling spare parts crankcases, so that engine numbers could be duplicated.

Bit weird, Hans. Just using Robert Miller's register:

- The homologation mark (DGM 10336) seems to be for the late 350 wide-case Desmo frame.

- Based on these 3 examples, your frame number, 400363, also fits this model:
631: 350 1975 DM350 17945 DM350D 400575 DGM 10336-OM
632: 350D 1974 DM350 18311 DM350D 400580 DGM 10336-OM
633: 350 Mk3D DM350 18370 DM350D 400318

- However, the 'S' designation after the '350' is normally found on the SCR model.

So, yeah, a bit of a mystery. Need photos ...
