Anyone tried the new Borrani's yet?

Postby tobydmv » Thu Apr 24, 2014 6:17 pm

Anyone tried the new Borrani's yet? At $255 a pop i'm a little hesitant to test the waters. I'd like to give them a try for the Monza but it might be diminishing return and overkill. I was reading the Ducati buyers guide and he recommended Taiwanese rims over Italian. I have some no name Taiwan shouldered rims from MikesXSon my Motobi. They have covered about 100 miles and are very sturdy and true. No problems building them at all. I didnt weigh them but they feel lighter than the San Remo's they replaced. Excel might be another option but they seem to be MX rims and might be heavier than

I just bought a pair of Borrani style rims 18x36 on ebay for $180, brand new. If you keep an eye out for sales you can do fairly well actually.

I've got to get them laced yet, but overall I'm fairly impressed with the quality.

I just discussed those with a buddy. He likes them a lot. They appear to be a duplicate of the rims I bought from MikesXS.net. He also said that Borrani was outsourcing their rim production to the same place where the ebay rims are made....

Hi Guys,

Probably not worth your while if you are in the Americas or Australia; shipping costs are cruel. But if you are European based then I like to think I can cut some deals off the standard prices for fellow bevel afficionados.

Full range priced on Discovolantemoto site.

Yes, I have tried them. :)

Are we talking the rims from Discovolante? I have a set and love them. I actually need one actually need one more in WM2 for a second bike I am trying to complete. These rims have all the Borrani stampings. I don't think the ebay ones do. Let me know if I am wrong on this.

What size rims for a monza? The manual lists WM 2.5 and that seems way too big. Most of the other bikes in this genre seem to be 1.85F and 2.5R. I was thinking 2.15 F&R might be a nice compromise. I wish I could remember where that tire chart was for rim sizes.

2.15 will be good if you go with a 90/90 front tire and 1.85 if you need a 80/90. If this is for the monza you just got I would decide on the tire size first as that fender you have looks like a nice skinny one. A 90/90 should fit but be sure first.

Yes its for the monza I dragged home, literally. The rear hub was rusted tight. It was persuaded to roll last weekend and then cleaned up. Gotta love mapp gas and home made Kroil (ATF and Acetone).

Have a look at that link for more on rim/tire combinations.

The wheel bearings are easy to get #6202 I believe.
