Okay, okay, I'll stop trying to solve problems that don't exist!
I have a tendency to overcomplicate things, but you're right of course. I'll just finish rebuilding it, stick it back in and enjoy riding it.
The Easter holidays are mostly going to be spent earning enough to pay for all the parts and cost of having the barrel and so on machined, then next term I can rebuild it at my leisure, to distract me from revising physics.
