Telesco front fork renewal (350 Scrambler)

Hello,

I've just removed the top seals on my front fork (Ducati Mototrans = Telesco suspension). The fact of removing the seals and changing the oil seems very beneficial, the fork is more accurate, no shimmy anymore. As a result, it may be not necessary to remove the internal teflon collars (anyway, I don't know how to find new ones!). But does somebody know the exact quantity of oil to be poured into the fork? I've started filling 150cc to make sure the fork won't be too hard. But what is the genuine quantity?

Hi Rocla,

Your Telesco forks should have 250cc of 20w fork oil in each leg.

Thanks for your reply. 250cc? More than a Mazorchhi (180cc)? Where did you get this information? And with 20w, it will make the fork very hard, don't you think so?

Hi Rocla,

That information comes straight out of the Mototrans handbook for machines fitted with Telesco forks.
The later Stradas, Forzas and Ventos use 280cc in each leg.
I use 20w oil in my own Telesco forked Ducatis with no problems.

Hi Jon,

OK for 250cc, I will complete the quantity. I usually use 5W oil, very fluid in fact, and I think it is better for a offroad usage.

Given you have Mototrans or Telesco manual, few questions:
- do you know where it is possible I get a scan of such manual?
- once the teflon seal is dented (it is not the case in my fork, so far), how do you proceed?

Which model bike are you working on?
There are slight differences between different Telesco forks.
Basically you have to remove the lower damper bolt at the bottom of the slider and unscrew the fork seal holder at the top, although there are different types of bolt and seal holder, depending on which sort of forks you have.
If you go back a few pages on the board index there is quite a few threads on stripping Telesco forks.
