Hi,
Not sure if this has been covered before, but I should like advice and views on the ignition timing for the 350 single used in the Condor motorcycle. I have set the timing as suggested by the (Swiss) manual and this was done statically, checked with a timing disc fixed on the crankshaft. But the engine has a knock on hard acceleration. Whilst this might be symptomatic of other problems (worn little end bush, for example, but at only 35k miles?!), I wondered if anyone had advice regarding the timing. Is there a better timing point to use, perhaps with the auto advance set in its advanced position? Any thoughts welcome.
Kind regards,
Peter

Try using higher octane fuel to see if the knock goes away.

Re: 350 wide case ignition timing
Many thanks, but I have tried this, with no effect. And the 350 engine in the Condor is a de-tuned version with a compression ration of only around 8.5:1 as it was designed to run on poor quality fuel, if necessary!
I guess I am asking if the ignition setting should be done statically at 10 deg. BTDC as the (Swiss military) manual states, or if there is a more accurate setting to be used with the auto advance mechanism held on its advanced position.
Kind regards,
Peter

Re: 350 wide case ignition timing
you could try retarding it a little and see if the knock is less?

Re: 350 wide case ignition timing
The Knock could be the big end , don't rev it , a big bang would be bad.An engine with no history should be stripped and the crank serviced.
