Hello,
I just picked up this beauty. It is supposed to be a 1967 mark 3, engine number checks out. I took it out last weekend and put 50 miles on it. It was real fun to ride. Handlebars are comfortable but slightly goofy looking. Reading about this model, I found that there was a racing kit with a pair of clip-ons, and rear sets and a tach. I will probably go that route. Trying to take inventory of what is here and stock. Also I couldn't get it to start with the kick. I had to bump start it everytime. Is that usual for this model?

New tires, tidy up the exhaust, fit lower bars and rear sets and your there!. If you fit the race bars without changing the foot positions it will be really uncomfortable. Starting is easier if you flood untill the carb drips fuel, then apply pressure on the K/S to just go over compression, then a fast full kick and catch it on the throttle . I always start OFF the stand and use my right leg,--feel awkward at first but saves the weak stand from bending .Expect the kick start spring /gear to give trouble!.(followed by your wallet and back ).

____ Often-so with riders who're unfamiliar with the ideal kicking-procedure,, but otherwise, not really.
You're probably not kicking it over fast enough to produce a good starting-spark. _ Do as B.bob has suggested but don't move the kick-lever very-fast until AFTER you've slowly bled-off almost all of the compression, (so as to avoid any kickback), and THEN kick-through as hard as possible (so that the flywheel will overpower any tendency to kickback, [for the next Otto-cycle] ).
____ NICE-find, btw !
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob

____ When I first started-out learning to start my original-Duke,, I would use my right-leg with the Duke rested on it's side-stand, but after I once broke the stand's shaft off, I then-after learned to stand-over the seat & kick with my left-leg, (which I believe is the best-way, [once you've gotten tall enough] ).
" Expect the kick start spring /gear to give trouble!. "
____ But HIS 1967-model has the coil-type KS.spring (that replaced the rather poor leaf-spring setup, in late 1965) !

Re: My new bike -1967 Mark 3
Thnaks for the help. The dripping wet carb has helped a lot.
Anyone have a parts catalog for the 67 mark 3?
I am also planning on cutting down some headlight ears to fit the clip-ons. Anyone out there know the height of the stock short headlight ears?
Unless someone has a pair of short headlight ears that they want to sell?
Thanks
Sebouh

Glad to hear you are enjoying the bike, If it were mine to get regular use i would change the electrics to the British spec, 60watt alt ,battery 12v?,wider range AAU, DC coil etc. I cannot cope with kickbacks and bumpstarts, too old now.

Re: My new bike -1967 Mark 3
Hello All,
Trying to convert to racing kit on the Mark III. I have a reproduction set of curved brake pedal and curved kickstarter and shifter. Does anyone know what the original footpegs looked like in turns of finish and foldablity. Did their both fold? or just the left side to allow use of the kickstarter. Anyone sell these?
Thanks
Sebouh

Re: My new bike -1967 Mark 3
Very nice, my favorite model...
This may be titled as a "1967" but it is definitely not, i would say it is a 66, going by the serial number its really hard to say. I have a ton of 66' cases and two sets are from 66' mk3's and they are both much higher in the serial #'s than yours. only way to know for sure is to pull the clutch cover, you will be doing that anyway to address the k/s issue...even though the 66 would have the updated k/s spring setup it is nowhere near "bulletproof" and could have been damaged by the previous owner...
I do have the 66' parts manual which you wont find on any website that i am aware of, if you need any specific info or pics let me know and i will email them too you, scanning the whole manual would take hours and hours...
Unless you weigh about 90 lbs. i wouldnt recommend trying to kick this over on the centerstand...
I have a set of mach 1 ears around here i can measure, and i also have some that where already shortened i could sell but honestly i would just recommend you shorten yours if you want to go that route... plus even if i send you the height of the mach 1 ears, this would really mean nothing unless you are going to be using oem clip ons (which you will never find, and if you do they will be so expensive, you wont want them) So really you just need to buy a set of clip ons first, then remove the necessary material from the h/l ears to make them fit correctly (dont forget to leave space for rubber grommets)
On the oem footpegs only the left side folded... As long as he still has some available, Eldert can sell you either a set of folding pegs, or one folding and one fixed... These are reproduction and are nice (and so much cheaper than oem pegs which are nearly impossible to find) There are some coming out of thailand also but they look pretty rough to me...Try Eldert first (on this site) if he doesnt have any i can send you the contact info of a guy in the u.k. that also makes them.
