Front Axle, Tail lightparts

Postby nortnlvr » Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:46 pm

All,

I mounted my newly painted front fender on my 69 Ducati Mark 3. However, while sitting on the bike the tire/rim is not centered between the fork lowers and the tire is rubbing on the fender stays. Are all front Ducati single axles created equal? Or are there differences. It appears to me that the Axle on these bikes should be longer, and that there should be a spacer between the hub and the left fork lower? Anybody know?

I also have a stock Ducati rectangle rear tail light aluminum housing. However, I'm missing the reflector, and a lens, can I buy just the reflector and lens? Where can I get those parts?

Here's some pics of a '68 M3D 250 set up. Should be the same.

Kev

RHS has a spacer...

LHS has nothing or perhaps a thin washer...

Mudguard/fender setup follows..

Hope that helps.

did you rebuild the front wheel? the rim should be offset to the hub by about 1/4"
no spacer on the brake side, the wider part of the axle is the spacer on the speedo side.
it should look like the posted picture above. if you use a spacer on the brake side you need to put it inside the brake plate so
as to not space the brake stay boss away from where it seats.
your fork tubes could be bent also, causing too much gap at the bottom.
you should have 170mm centers

Hmmm, thats what mine looks like, and the forks are not bent. I had that all checked out before putting them back together. I'll have to explore the spacer between the brake plat and the bearing.

Did you rebuild your front wheel or not?
does it have an offset or not?
if it doesnt have an offset then it will not be centered if it "looks like that"
lay a straight edge across the rim and measure to the edge of the hub, on both sides, you should get a difference of about 1/4"

I did rebuild my wheel, I have Berroni rims. I'll check the offset tonight.

So the 1/4 inch more offset should be on the speedo hub side, correct?

yes the hub should be further away from the rim edge on the speedo side and closer to the rim on the brake side.
if you already rebuilt your wheel then you will need to use a spacer. put the spacer inbetween the inside of the brake plate and the hub
so that the brake plate will engage fully in the lug on the fork leg.
assemble the wheel on the forks and measure the gap you have on the brake side and find or make a spacer the right size.

Speedo side is square with the rim, the brake side has a 3/16 gap between the rim and hub edge. I put in a spacer, problem solved.

ANy suggestion on the tail light parts?

I purchased this replica unit which looks ok, and can supply the details. Hopefully one day I will find a genuine one.
