Motorcycle tank bag recommendations?

Postby JimF » Wed Aug 22, 2012 2:12 am

I hope this is not considered off-topic, but I am looking to buy a magnetic tank bag for my 250 and I'm concerned that what the early 21st century considers a standard size tank bag might be too big on a 1960's 250 tank. I have concerns that the magnetic flaps might hang below the sides of the tank.

The recipient tank is the Mach 1/Mark 3 style tank without the carb indent.

Does anyone have a tank bag they would recommend?

Jim,

Are you going to run the 250 in the September Motogiro (Cavendish, Vermont)? I will run my bitsa 250 if we get the charging bugs worked out. Otherwise I will ride my builder/buddy's trusty 175 TS which I had run in three previous Giros.

Cheers,
Doug

PS: I am looking for a tank bag for the same tank as well.

I had spoke to someone in Santa Fe about 10 years ago that made custom leather tank bags. I had just bought my Monza and was going to have one made and never did. I will revisit some of my notes to see if I still have the information. If I recall, he had made one for a Triumph Tiger that was in a magazine I had bought then and I located him online...stay tuned.

Hi Doug,

Sadly, I live too far from Vermont to attend, and this area (Illinois) has no Motogiro.

In September a group of vintage motorcycle enthusiasts ride from the Chicago and its western suburbs to south western Wisconsin for a weekend. I have a high quality bicycle courier bag, but I get tired of carrying the weight on my back. I don't need a large amount of storage two days/nights.

Jim,

There will be a one day, 160 mile Motogiro on the Thursday before the AHRMA races at Barber in October. I am thinking about doing that one in addition to the Vermont one in September. Am getting the bugs worked out of my 250 bitsa. Battery is charging, HooRay!
