Hi All,

Wanted to post up the latest project delivered on the weekend.




Can see the potential but will need a few things to set the bike up before strip down and rebuild. If anyone can assist with anyone of the items listed below I would appreciate it.

Taillight and bracket
Chainguard
Tool boxes
Foot pegs
Ignition barrel and key

I am sure the list will grow but only had a brief look over the bike on the weekend after it was delivered.

Bob the engine number is
DM250
90566
The Dm250 is on the kick start side and the other case has the 90566
From what I have been told it is a 5 speed
Would that be correct based on the engine number

The shift/damper know clearly indicates the bike to be a 4-speed, and it also has reverse.

Truthfully, it's a jewel and I envy you.

I tried and tried to get reverse but no luck.

It looks like in it's last stage of life the bike had a battery explode.

The only reference I can find to colour scheme is black and silver.

Any assistance on this bike is much appreciated

Did you say you are looking for a taillight? It appears to have an original on it...

the only pics i can find of like bikes have the rectangular tail light
this is why i assumed that the light was wrong.
on closer inspection the case is genuine but the lense is a PMCO

____ Your eng.number does indeed indicate a 1965-model.
And the 5-speed motors went into production starting in 1963.
__ One reason I had thought that your Monza could be older, is because I had thought (as my memory has seemingly become unclear on this), that Ducati started producing the wheel-covers with fake air-scoops starting in late 1963, and yours (confusingly) appears to have the older/plain-style of speedo-drive cover (without the added [but stylish] dead-weight scoop).
Anyone-else care to chime-in on this point ? _ (Cuz it does seem to make reasonable sense that the new-style wheel-covers would become employed the same year -(1966) when they had changed-over from the 7-rib wheel-hubs to the newer 3-rib style of drum/hubs.)
__ This detail used to be quite clear to me but, I guess these last 2-decades (away from DUCATIs), has allowed me to start forgetting about such detail-changes.)
____ UPDATE: ... I guess I'm getting too old, cuz TODAY I quite clearly recall that the wheel-covers with the fake air-scoops indeed came-out on the pre-66 Duke-models matched with the SEVEN-fin hub-drums. _ (So it's just as well that no-one had yet bothered to chime-in and help jog my memory on that detail.)
Still, however,, I'm now wondering if the newer-style wheel-covers came-out & became employed in 1963, at the very-SAME production-point as when the 5-speed motors became available ?
I'd tend to doubt that though,, so the question should probably be which was FIRST to come-out, the 5-speed motors or the wheel-covers with the fake air-scoops ??
The only person I know-of who very-likely would KNOW for sure, is John White (formally of DomiRacer), as he was the only one who always knew the answers to my questions about DUKEs (back in the '70s).

Have added some more images.
On checking the front forks the only markings are C2 which gives me no clue.

Bob also the rear guard has more holes than Swiss cheese in it so i can not be sure that it is original either.

____ The Duke-models with that non-round style tail-light & large plate display-bracket, are of-course stock but rather of the non-USA versions.
Your tail-light LOOKS like the USA-version, however it may not actually be stock, since it's plate-bracket is certainly not factory-original/stock !

____ I now see that the left-side of your front-wheel has a wheel-cover with the fake air-scoops (as expected for a '65-model) ! ... This confirms that the wheel-cover on the right-side is not stock (and probably from an older 4-speed Duke-model).

____ It's definitely not stock for a '65-Monza.
