Hello all
I'm restoring a 1966 250 race bike. I'm currently rebuilding the engine. the cases have worn where they are held in the frame, probably as a result of being run loose.
I've built up the worn alloy with weld and will now mill them back to standard. however heres the problem. what is the original width of the cases where they fit between the rear engine plates.

My case were so warn that actually look like they were different widths between the left and right case?

I'd be great full if anyone with cases in good condition could measure the width (upper and lower).

Many thanks
Mat

The dimention across the rear mountings is 65.25 to 65.50. this is with no gasket on beadblasted cases that have been just pressed together with no fasteners pulling them up.
hope this helps.

Hi Tony.
Thanks very much.
So just to confirm; both rear the upper and lower case mountings are the same, ie 65.25 to 65.50mm

and both the cases (left & right ) are symmetrical, ie (65.50 / 2) 32.75mm each?

Thanks again
Mat

Hello Mat,
yes, the mountings are equal from the centre joint, the two measurements are taken from 2 sets of "cases and they are the average tolerance for the dimension.
you can check the front frame mount width across the 2 tubes that are at the bottom of the downtube,( mine are 65.4). the rear frame mounts can vary a few mil, but they can be corrected by the usual methods.
Don"t worry too much about engine alignment, everything seems to line-up when the bolts get screwed up.( or it don"t matter if it"s a bit out).
