Front wheel off set

Postby lloydy1 » Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:54 pm

Hi, could someone advise me please of the correct off set for a 18" Borrani rim? which is fitted to my Ducati Mach1, which I am rebuilding. The reason I ask is, I have rebuilt the wheel taking the measurement from the hub and rim before the strip down and now I have fitted the wheel back on the bike it is not sitting centre of the folks. It is 2.5mm to far to the right as you look at the bike from the front. I am kicking myself a bit because I presumed it was correct before the strip down and you know what they say about presumption! . I have placed a spacer between the folk leg and the brake plate which corrects it making it central, but the lug is not fully home, which I am not happy with :( Can someone point me in the right direction?

If I understand the problem, I believe that the wheel rim is supposed to be tucked tightly into the brake boss on the fork leg. Then the rim is supposed to be laced with an offset in the spokes so as to center the rim and the tire within the fender.

Your solution might work, but I would feel better knowing the brake boss is fully engaging the brake plate.

Here's a similar thread....

Other opinions may vary.

Okay, so I would need to realign the rim by the 2.5mm on the hub, thus fully engaging the lug and centring the tyre for it to correct? thanks for that.

another option would be to put a spacer between the hub and the brakeplate

I have placed a spacer, but my concern is that the lug is not fully home and I don't feel it is right.

The front wheel on a Duck single is symmetrical twit the hub flanges.

Please remember that adding spacers will splay your forks.

I see what you are saying, but would it not correct itself on the pinch bolt side due to the free float before you tighten it up?
