Agree with George. BUT, that won't inform you about the condition of the crank sludge trap! :(

All the engines that I have acquired were either in 'big lumps' or had been standing in garages or sheds with no heating and leaking roofs, so damp and alternating hot/cold conditions leading to condemsation inside the engine that is very apparent when lifting the head or taking the clutch cover casing off. Hence my comments about stripping a motor, rather than giving it a wee 'try' first. Also my mates experience, with a narrowcase 350 he was given in memorium of his friend that had been sitting in an unheated shed. Big end knocking within 300 miles, after the double oil change advocated by George et al, including me.

Be VERY aware of shims and their position when removing parts. The shims need to go back in the same place, hopefully nobodies been there before you to give them a 'mix up'! A motor will come apart in less than a morning, if you have the where withall. However, the rebuild will take at least a two to three days and again depends upon your mechanical apptitude, tools etc.

Ventodue/Craig, that is a bonnie looking bike! ;)

Good health, Bill

Gracias, Bill. There's at least Jon and I who like them :D !

Here's another for your 'Viewing Pleasure' :). Jon has a green and white, the first series. Me, a second series in the Catalan Senyera colours of red and yellow.

Un saludo

Craig

Amazing looking machines! I first saw one while on holiday in Spain in about 1980; I was gobsmacked!

Yes, very attractive little bikes, and for the moment still a relatively inexpensive way to own a classic Duke single.....and I suspect a good one maybe easier to live with than the earlier Italian ones.
Cheers,

Aye Craig, always liked the lines and knowing what a good 350 motor is capable of thought they would be a good bike. Only seen one in the flesh on the IoM at the Manx back in the early 1990's. Maybe I should ......... sell some of what I have and go looking for one! ;)

What fork oil works in the Vento? According to the book, it takes 280mls of SAE20. Now, 20 is a very heavy fork oil, and a specialist item. And as it happens, I have some 15 fork oil on hand. What are people using?
Thanks

Jon will tell you more, but 20 is correct. It won't do any harm to try the 15 if you already have it, viscosity does vary between different oil companies anyway.

A new problem has come up. The front brake master cylinder obviously clamps on to the handlebar, and I don't have the other half of the clamp. I bought this bike in pieces, and I think it was missing then. Also, what I can't work out is how the RHS switchgear attaches. This switchgear has holes for 4 screws, and it attaches to the handlebar. But there's only so much length on the clip-on, and the 4-screw switch block can't attach to the 2-screw brake handle clamp. So I need another piece.

Here's a link showing the two pieces I need to attach to the clip-on: https://imgur.com/a/QsK66Gg

The brake clamp looks to be a standard Brembo clamp, so you should be able to find one - try Phil at Road and Race, or Gowies, or eBay. The switchgear clamp will be more difficult, hopefully Jon will have an idea.

I can see how I can clamp the brake master cylinder on, using something like this:

but I don't know how I can attach the switch block.
