Success! It looks like it is fixed; the problem was the pulser ring in the timing cover, so fingers crossed it will be ok now.

I must say a big thank you to Nigel in helping to sort this out, if it was not for his help I would have bought a complete new system.

I have no idea what was wrong with the pulser, it just stopped working and the LED did not light, even though power was getting to it. Maybe a burned out coil if there is one in there? Electrics, a black art.

Great news Colin, like most problems there is usually a simple answer. With electrics the trouble is we don't know what the question is.
