Re: W/C Oil pump

I had another look tonight and I think the plug was just touching the piston. It was a BP7HS which I think fitted in before. The old piston had a scoop out of it where the spark plug intruded. The new piston doesn't have that scoop. I put in a B7HS and that seems clear of everything and runs OK on the stand.

Hi Eldert,

I posted twice on this thread since your post and my last post went to the next page, so thought you mightn't have seen my query on the Mazucchelli bottom end on page 13 (previous page) of this thread. (Not pushing for an answer, I just noticed you posted since I did and you may have missed it. Any info on the MdP bottom end gratefully received.)

Regards,

Kev

Kev,

Eldert will reply im sure. But yes this is the rod he is talking about, and they do have oiling holes in the 12 o'clock position, as well as the 4 and 8 o'clock position for a total of 3...
But the oem ducati rod has a total of 4, 2 like he mentioned at the top an one on each side of the bottom of the small end.

I have one of the rods like you have here (used) but I have no experience on how strong, or weak they might be, I bought mine used, in good shape, very cheap...I also have a used oem 250 w/c rod, and an nos 250 n/c rod... Ill try to attach a pic of the oiling holes...

Many thanks Joe.

So just to clarify, is MdP the same manufacturer as Mazucchlli?

I was also prompted to think after reading Eldert's post last night "Well, I'm not going to ride it too hard."

But I dismissed that, because I still find from time to time that the "red mist" descends and my brain loses perfect contol of my right wrist.

Last year at the Albany Hill Climb (coming up next weekend here) I recall talking to a friend who is a multiple champion in speedway, road and motocross before the event. He told me he wasn't going to be "competing" as such. He was riding after me and I saw him cross the line at the top of the hill in front giving it heaps on three rides up the hill. As he pulled in behind me on the final run, I asked him what was going on given his previous statement. His reply - "Guess I just can't stand the sight of rear wheels"!

Yeah I know what you mean, I can't seem to ride/or drive my stuff "easy" I might say I will, I might have intentions too...but it never works out like that...

Hi Kev

Joe did a great job of pointing out the differances between a original Ducati and a pattern rod

i dont know if your rod is the same as a Mazzucelli .

here is a pic of the box the Mazzucceli rods came in

I was told that the symbol on the rod i pictured was mazzucelli...maybe its not ? the symbol on the rod is hard to make out, but it almost looks like a Matchless emblem. Either way though, if having the oiling hole at 12 o"clock weakens it in that area, then what brand it is doesnt really matter i guess ?

I don't believe Mdp and Mazzuccelli are the same company as I've seen both referenced separately in the same place.
If you do a quick search and look at someplace that has scooter parts you'll see crank and piston stuff from both companies.
