I have converted my 175 to 12V and it has an Electrex regulator/rectifier specifically made for Ducati singles. This can be used for either 6V or 12V by snipping a link wire. I am still running points ignition.
Having said that, some people report success with cheap Chinese scooter units.

Maybe worth checking you have output from the generator. Mine stopped charging very soon after I got it going and the problem was that my wiring behind the flywheel was not tucked in tidily enough and got rubbed through.

Thanks for the input, I'll have a look on Saturday, it's a 12v system and I get a small increase in voltage when I rev it but not much, it was nearly beer o clock when I discovered that it wasn't charging so it got put to one side. I've not got a garage so it's weekend only tinkering. Mick

Can you clarify? Is your bike not charging at all or is it only charging at 12.8V at the battery? I would disconnect the stator from the battery and use a cheap analog AC voltmeter to check what the AC voltage is coming out of the stator. If it's at least 15V then you might need a new rectify/regulator(RR). If it's less than that either the stator is not working correctly or the flywheel has become less magnetized. Either way if you are getting 12.8V DC at the battery, just replace the battery with a 10k-15k microfarad capacitor. I like the ones with screw on terminals. This way it doesn't matter if your RR puts out a lower voltage. I assume you have a kick starter and not an electric starter.

If you are in the USA there is a great website that has good RR's that aren't that expensive. https://sparckmoto.com/

Hi, thanks for the info, I'm in Spain. I've not had chance to check it out yet but will have a look on Saturday. I've not got a workshop so so I'm working in a car park . I'll post my findings on Saturday. Mick

She's charging perfectly, it was a crappy earth on the regulator, 14v revving, 12.9 on tickover so I'm well happy. Thanks for the replies and she's on the road very soon ☺️
