That's a brilliant job Ian, another one rescued from the knackers yard - well done!! :)
And good on you for getting it going with a springer head, better to have it out on the road and putting a smile on your dial than languishing on the workbench waiting for parts!

Cheers

Thanks Dan. The only issue with the springer head is that I will now have to put up with with the occasional person say, "yeah, but it's not a real one is it..." :)

I did think about slapping on a Desmo version of the cam end block but I'm not sure it will even fit on a springer head.

Those rivet counters can be a bore at times....lol....but its only a temporary state of affairs - a desmo head will turn up one day!

That looks amazing. It looks like my old bike. Good luck starting it, mine could be awful on a bad day.

Actually starting is remarkably easy. Although it has a springer head right now, I am running it without a decompressor but it is using the Electrex CDI ignition system from Lacey Ducati and I'm running a Dellorto PHBH 30AS carb. It's first or second kick every time (which is just as well for someone who has buggered both knees skiing).

You're lucky or you've done something I couldn't.

Last time I tried to start my 250 (strong white spark, lots of fuel), I gave up after 45 minutes of kicking.

And yes, i know the technique.

That was my thoughts exactly, definitely something not right.

Yes I know there's something wrong, the problem is I don't know what it is. It's probably me. But my Honda has a much better starting technique: you press the button.
