Re: Electrolysis Tank Cleaning

Thanks George. My tank is not as bad as it could be and I got most of the loose rust out when I attacked it the first time with vinegar and nuts and bolts. It is looking pretty good now and I am hopeful that after tonight it will be clean.

As for kicking your Road over, it is a problem when the rider is getting a little older (like me). I have fitted a valve lifter which I was lucky to get hold of, although they should be pretty common because of all the discarded ones from racers that have been built.

Cheers,

Colin

I ran with a voltmeter across the 2 electrodes and this shows when the process is slowing down. I also ran the battery charger on the 6 volts setting so that it was all nice and steady.
The sacrificial electrode can be cleaned a couple of times, depending how big it is, but I replaced mine more than once when it started to crumble away. I actually used 2 bent strips of steel, which were clamped together into a Y shape so that the prongs went down each side of the centre spine of the tank giving a direct line to the worst areas.

Didn't get so much rust off this time - the law of diminishing returns, I suppose, although the water came out red. I've dried the tank off and will refit it tomorrow.
