I had a similar problem, it turned out that the 'air filter' was more of an 'air block'.
The 'filter' was fitted when I bought the bike. It would start, run, but after a while be difficult to keep running then stop.
It appeared to be made from some random foam.
Once a real air filter was fitted, the problem went away.

I’m in the process of derusting and sealing the tank. I looked inside the float bowl and the petrol was ochre coloured. The jets were not blocked but I reckon the potential of the fuel has been severely compromised ! I’ll find out if this has been the problem later today when the sealer has cured

I have the same problem. I was wondering if fuel contamination is affecting the way that my bike runs.

I am going to have to run my 'modern' Ducati on super unleaded as well as my classics, because the fuel tank is plastic, and the ethanol melts it. What a wonderful world.

I think I have seen?.......but will need to research this again some method for removing the ethanol from standard pump petrol......can't quite remember but I think it was as simple as adding water to the petrol which then mixes with the ethanol and thus separates the resulting mix from the petrol??????? because water and petrol will always separate out taking the ethanol with it? sounds like it should work, just need to be very careful constantly making up your own fuel stash in the shed
pretty explosive stuff
.......but I need it for the bikes and the vintage racing car, so if needs must.
Cheers,
George
