I do have a 932 laying around from a Bultaco project. I wonder if I couldn't get that to work...or at least test it out.

That's far too big, trying to fit that size to a monza small port small valve head will cause so many weird carb problems.......just won't do.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear in my earlier post......I neglected to say "if I was starting from scratch......with a 626 concentric" hope I was not too misleading

626 ordered. May as well try it out! Do y'all recommend just running the velocity stack or should I bother running a connector to the stock Monza airbox?

Kinda depends on how dusty an environment you are riding in.......I live in a pretty damp and coldish old Ireland so air filters or air cleaner box's don't matter too much to me, the reason I suggested fitting a proper Amal velocity stack (not just any old alloy bellmouth) is in my experience these carbs run much crisper and responsive with one on.........others may disagree, its just my preference :D.

I've had no issues with the stacks on my 77' Guzzi Le Mans here in Atlanta, so I guess I'll keep the stack on the Amal, then!

FINALLY got my Amal 626. They've been on back order everywhere for months.
It's a far better carb than the Mikuni on these bikes. I'm sold on it. I had to widen the mount holes just a smidge then it slid right on. I'm running it without the rubber spacer between the carb and cylinder. Maybe that will present issues later? For now, it runs amazingly. Finally don't have an overly rich idle circuit and I can finally go back to the stock petcocks since the fuel intake is lower on the Amal. Not to mention it just looks right on the bike. I threw on my colortune and it's blue flame at idle all the way up the rev range. Perfect.
I changed nothing on the Amal. 160 main came in it and thats pretty much perfect.
I did remove and block off the choke. I'm just doing a few tickles and it cranks right up. May switch back to the choke later but I like the simplicity of not having another cable.

BTW: The elektronik sacshe digital ignition is brilliant. 3rd one I've installed and they're always so easy to set.

Glad to here it worked out for you :) I would fit some sort of heat resistant spacer between the carb and head....make one out of 'tufnol' if you can get it......doesn't need to be very thick say 6mm, don't be tempted to use one of those std. Ducati rubber spacers they are too soft and will distort your carb flange (and leak air),
Cheers,
George
