Or for a 450 half a degree retarded to save your ankle
I have Sachse on my RT set at 1/2 degree retarded, starts fine with no kick back.

Re: What is the best charging and ignition system for wide case 450
Here is a question: why is the 450 engine timed to 28° BTDC, but the early 860/900 engines (with identical cylinder heads to the 450) were timed to 35°? Strangely, with the introduction of the Darmah, Ducati retarded the timing to 32°, and later, with the very last 900 engines (still with the same piston/combustion chamber) they retarded it further to 28°.

Mystery .. different valve timings? Dunno. Definitely one for the engine designers, Colin.

!!! Same valves, same combustion chamber, same piston shape.....Different ignition timing.

Perhaps saving the big ends from pre ignition and damage ?

Definitely true that an advanced ignition timing gives the bottom end a harder time.

Are the connecting rods a different length ?

Probably - 450: 75mm stroke, 860:74.4mm stroke.
