Frame is 450
Looks like a Scrambler as does the tank.
The engine looks smaller than a 450? What numbers are on the front of the engine?

Hi Roberto,
As per Graeme.
The "DGM7026-OM" part of the frame stamp is the homologation code for the 450 Scrambler frame. ("DGM" stands for "Direzione Generale per la Motorizzazione". This type approval was issued in 1969). The tank looks Scrambler, so probably does go with the frame.
The "DM450S*468248" part makes it a 1974. Its a late number, there being only three later ones on Robert Miller's list on Bevel Heaven (all listed as 1974): 468 295, 468 658 and 468 670.*
According to the list, the frame used to belong to a certain Brad Davidson and was paired with engine number 462321.
* My own bike, a 1972, is 465644.

Thanks for the replies. I thought maybe the tank was wrong color, I read some where that 450s in 70s only had yellow tanks. I'll post number on engine later; the crank did turn free. What was the last year for this model.

I downloaded a figure, somewhere on a private italian DUCATI webpage, which listed the prodution numbers of all w/c Scrambler models. If have to check my harddisk, and if it reappears I will make an upload.
For now. The Scramblers appear lastly in 1975 - 250, 350 and 450 as well.

If this engine is 450,,,
The very last series had wider spaced bolts forward and rear of the cylinder opening in the cases.
The serial number for these was 46———— (I don’t know what number this case change started)
Also had the later ignition and alternator with two seperate cables exiting the case, 2 core and a 3 core.
From what I’ve seen in Australia these differences were all 1974 and later up to ‘75 in the scramblers.
Other countries may differ?
It’s hard to see in your pictures but it looks like your engine has the narrow bolt spacing from pre ‘74 but has 2 cables exiting the cases?
Either way you have a very good start to a bike that you will love to ride.
Ps I think the Scramlers in the US were called Jupiter and were yellow (450) but stopped before 1974?

You're absolutely right, Roberto. My apologies - I thought you meant that the tank wasn't correct for the model of bike. Which it is - and isn't ..

Because the paint scheme on your tank is from the very first wide-case 250-350 Scrambler from 1969! See below:

This is because these models were fitted with electronic ignition. This gets it kick via the 2 core wire.
Started in late 1972, if you believe the evidence of my bike. Or early 1973, if you believe Massimo Clarke in Ducati Scrambler, Desmo e Mark 3 ..

I’ll guess you are in the US ?
Please tell me the engine serial number or just the first 3 numbers and if it is a 450. how many wires exit the cases above the left side.
If you are in the US you’re in the cheapest place to get parts.
What don’t you have (apart from head and cylinder)?
