Re: Serious ID Help Needed
Here are a few close up engine shots. Does it appear to be just basic scrambler stuff?

Re: Serious ID Help Needed
My front brake drum air intake doesn't seem to be at the same angle as a some of the 65 scramblers and also the speedometer cable angles down hill instead of up hill like some scramblers. Like I say in my title. Im trying to id what i have and what you ducati experts know about the pieces on this bike. Unfortunately the Widow Lady is almost 70 years old now and doesn't really remember much at all. Did these bikes come with different rims or different sized brakes?

Whats the deal with kickstands. Did they come with dual kickstands or a choice?

Re: Serious ID Help Needed
I see what you mean about the seat cover, it doesn't match the rest of the bike.
Like others have already said I think, you have a 1965 250 Scrambler, that has been modified for dirt track racing.
your handlebars are not from a Ducati, the Ducati ones would not have been suitable for flat track racing.
your front brake plate is normal it just isn't lined up properly, nothing holds it in place before you tighten up the front axle.
your wheels are correct for a 65 scrambler 19" front and rear(changed to 18" rear in 66), the rear dunlop is not stock
the tach looks like a real Veglia could be from a Ducati or just bought at the dealer i am not familar with those, I have seen them sell for $1500 on Ebay (CRAZY)
it's odd you have the tach but no tach drive, the scrambler would not have come with either one, you can find the tach drives for $250 or so
the scrambler did not come with a center stand, only a side stand
your frame has had several things cut off of it to make is more suited for racing
headlight and steering dampner removed
fenders removed and chopped, headlight ears chopped
wiring removed, carb swapped to a 29mm from a 27mm
the previous owner may have done some engine mods but you'd need to open it up and see
hope that cleares up any questions you had
it looks soo clean for sitting as long as it did, I bet you can get it fired up no problem
good luck

Yeah, the throttle cable moves like extra thick grease and the slide stays where you let go of the handle grip. I plan on taking care of that on sunday and seeing if it fires up. real gently of course. The oil in this thing had to have come out of one of those old quart cans where you stab the spout into it. Too bad the oil has no value. LOL

I also see my cylinder has been painted Black which tells me that it probably has been off because there is no way anyone could have painted it like that on the bike. So I am very curious about the cam, possible porting and piston myself. Maybe I will have to stick my Milwaukee lighted pencil camera down the spark plug hole and check for stuff. What stuff, I have no idea besides oversize numbers thats if they even did that back then.

Re: Serious ID Help Needed
Seems to me the scrambles came with a racing kit that included struts to replace the shocks, sprockets? cables? and a tachometer arrangement, though rarely see scramblers with a tach installed. The tach you have is a kit tach although the mounting bracket is not. The kit mounting bracket also attached to the headlight ear, which has been remove on yours. Brazing repair on the front of the tank (where the paint has chipped off) was pretty common; the weld would split along the seam at the font of the tunnel. That plastic clutch lever isn't quite period correct for the 1960's, probably added in the 1970's, so this bike was run for a while. Matt

I am really digging your old flat tracker. My bike is leaning towards becoming a flat tracker too. I might have to copy some mods that your has.
