This includes myself. When I bolted the head on, it didn't quiet seat the way I expected, but could not figure out why. I never expected the upper bevel shaft to be bottoming. Looks like I'll be pulling the head to double check.

As simple as these engines are, it never ceases to amaze me how many intricate little details there are regarding their clearances and assembly. This won't be the first time I've disassembled my engine to double-check something I learned on this site.

I used a little plastecine between the shaft joint to determine what was holding things up,thats when i realised there was no clearance and I lost my clot status!!.

I have loads of room between the shaft joint, the problem I have or had was that the additional cir-clip was installed by some mechanical clot as stated by Bevel Bob which was compressing the oldham coupling and it was this that forced the top cir-clip out of its seating, allowing the coupling to move up the shaft. This engine was completely assembled when I got my hands on it and unfortunitly as they say presumption is the mother of all F### ups. I presumed who ever had the engine in bits and rebuilt it would some how know what they are doing. There is no such thing as a mistake, just another lesson learnt. Who taught the teacher!

I find wearing a skirt whilst assembling an engine very liberating...
