I have 2 questions, that are related to the same problem Im having...
Restoring this 1966 scr, and chrome prices are insane these days.
Does anyone know A: Is there a dealer for Radaelli Rims in the USA ?
B: How do you tell if another brand of 18" (rear) 19" (front) 36 hole, wm2 1.85" wide rims will work ? They can be found in several brands very cheap online... So what is the difference ? I am already assuming I would need rims designed for drum brakes, but even with those criteria there are still several people selling them cheap, so can anyone tell me what they have used that has worked ? On the other duke I am building I was thinking about running alloy rims, but same issue there... You can buy them for 200 to 400 each that are "Ducati specific" or buy generic ones of the same brand elswhere for 1/2 that.. I cant believe there is anything that special, especially since my brother and I just installed 36 hole Akront flanged alloy wheels, on his 1970 450 scr hubs, with no problems at all... I realize you can buy them undrilled or have them drilled when purchasing at buchanans but... Did we just get "lucky" with the ossa rims, or are they all similar, or the same on the italian, and spanish bikes that use grimeca hubs ? This would save me a lot of time and money on both motorcycles, if I could either get new radaelli rims for a reasonable price in the usa, or buy "generic" unmarked rims that will fit. I already have a really nice set of hubs, already polished, have 2 nos sets of spokes, all I need is to figure this out... Thanks for any help in advance...
Joe

Hi Joe
Don't know where you are finding them cheap, please share those links.
I have looked at Buchanans for aluminum rims and if I find a deal on a set of hubs, I may go that route.
I see that Classic has some rims that appear to replicate the Borrani rims and are Italian made.

Re: Ducati Single Rims
Has anyone seen the modern Boranni product? Looks like the markings are laser etched rather than stamped as on the originals? Or is this just an effect of the pictures I've seen and the markings are actually stamped? British Only carries a few Radaelli sizes and one or two Borranis but seem to be for Brit bikes (evidently drilled differently than Italian pattern). Also, pretty pricey (but Buchanan's alloy rims are all $200+ so I guess that's the going rate). Domiracer has some Chinese made flanged alloy rims listed for Ducati for $130. Anyone have experience with these? What would our viewers be prepared to pay for the modern Borrani product?

Re: Ducati Single Rims
The domiracer ones look ok, but ive never bought any, I just bought 2 (i am assuming chinese made) 18" x 1.85" non-flanged alloy rims for $108 shipped ebay seller name 250champ
He says he has installed these on 2 Ducati singles with good results... offered money back guarantee...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... _500wt_749
Also there is an ebay seller (motoduck) selling Borrani "knock-offs" for 189 each shipped !!, and they are nice, I have seen them in person. MADE IN ITALY, NO STAMPINGS ON IT, I DONT KNOW WHO MAKES IT...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WM2-Shou ... _862wt_958
None of this really helps me though, at least not with the scrambler, because I want to keep it original, and I need steel rims, preferably radaellis...
This place sells Radaelli rims...BUT WONT SHIP TO THE USA... STUPID !!!

Joe,
if you contact centralwheelcomponents directly they have no probs sending to USA. I was there last month and spoke to them direct about shipping to the East coast.

My '68 450 Mark3 has PIETRO BERETTA BARANZATE MILANO chrome steel rims 18x2.75 round shoulders conical centre - they appear original to the bike but can they be original ? Can anyone please shed any insight - thanks, Paul

Re: Ducati Single Rims
I've seen some scramblers with Pietro Beretta Baranzate rims, so they were a supplier to Ducati during that time period. Likely original rims you have . Matt

Re: Ducati Single Rims
Thanks Matt for the feedback - it helps to confirm Beretta wheels as I found a post that said Borrani and Radielli were the only wheels ever supplied. So I will restore/relace the wheels with spokes from Buchanans and I got bearings from Lacey. and wrap with Pirelli City Demons as they appear very classic and have perhaps a rain pattern - they will be my "wets" ! Otherwise I will setup some "New" wheels - I just need something like a "european crisis" to justify what I want as I set a precident buying forged magnesium wheels in the last recession for 1/2 price - they are my "recession wheels" - perhaps a set of Ceriani Borrani "EC" wheels with Avons !
Thanks again, Paul
