" I regard it as our site.
I contribute the money to keep it going "
____ Well then it seems quite fair to me that Jim ought to have a way to accept donations from any of those who care & have the means to do so !
Ideally, Jim should not have to spend a single-cent of his own, for having taken the time & trouble to have created this important w.site !
__ Who couldn't possibly agree !?
Who of us will be the first to 'second' my worthy notion, by asking Jim to set-up a way to accept donations towards helping to cover the maintaining of this great web-site ?
" Toward the question of other Italian makes, I am not opposed to starting a discussion group for that topic, especially in light of the fact that I just yesterday bought a MV Agusta 350.
Let me know if you think we need a new discussion topic and we'll go from there. "
____ I-myself am much against anything-else also being covered here on THIS particular DUCATI-website that's not at least in some minor way (rather directly) related to DUCATI-Singles !
__ However, it would indeed be nice to have a closely-related SISTER-site that's completely open to all antique Italian motorcycles.
Perhaps Jim could help with setting-up such, providing that he gets funding-help towards the additional website maintenance-funding that would likely be required,
(as I've already suggested).
Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob

Re: missing carb parts
No worries Bob, I appreciated your post and its good to see a forum that actually cares that things stay on topic. Most of the places I've frequented have more jerks and less info.
Now, let's talk about what oil I should use in my Yamaha RZ350.

Agreed, my hand is up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It's easy and pleasant to talk to others here who like singles and to gain knowledge.

Three primary things I really like about the Forum:
1) The people willing to share their Ducati single knowledge.
2) No advertising or annoying pop-ups.
3) Only Ducati singles.
Count me in for a donation.

Re: missing carb parts
Thank you for offering but no donations are being solicited and none are being accepted.
As I said, this is cheaper for me than one trip to a mechanic.
Thanks to everyone for asking and answering questions. We have a good group here. I figure we are all pretty lucky to have Ducatis as well as friends like us on the forum.

Financial-support for "our" Website
By: DanM...
" things I really like about the Forum:
No advertising or annoying pop-ups. "
____ Like many w.sites do to support (or even profit) for themselves,, Jim also could no-doubt possibly accept letting this w.site display ad.pop-ups, but I doubt many advertisers would actually care to pay much, as we surely have less than a thousand individual visitors.
However if pop-up ads would deductly make a sizable dent in Jim's monthly w.site maintenance bill,, then I for one, could accept such.
But I'm pretty-sure that many others would agree with you that it would be preferable to make fund-donations rather than put-up with such possible distracting miscellaneous advertising.
And with a fair number of us contributing,, then no-doubt the out-of-pocket cost per individual contributing member, would be little more than pocket-change.
__ So it's MY opinion (for one), that Jim should allow all of us the opportunity to possibly help contribute to this w.site in the manor of financial-support, as well (as mere posting).
____ I've now seen that Jim-himself has placed a new-post (evidently while I was beginning my-own, here),
so I cut-off on this-one & continue-on, within a response-post to his.
Stay-Tuned,
-Bob

Future-security for the Assured-continuation of "our" W.site
____ I'm sure I'm not the only one who might've expected that you'd possibly react in such a 'Thanks, but no-thanks!' manor. ...JimF wrote:Thank you for offering but no donations are being solicited and none are being accepted.
...end of thread...
But Jim, there's something-else that really needs to be considered about this w.site-support stuff ! ...
__ It has crossed my mind more than a few times before, that, what-if,
that is to say, what if some unforeseen future-occurrence somehow prevents YOU-yourself ALONE from being able to pay-the-bill, (and KEEP it paid) ? _ What THEN would inevitably eventually become of this website of ours ??
I fear for us all that the entity who runs the server for maintaining "our" w.site, would not care to continue-on maintaining it accessible on the ww.web-net indefinitely, for FREE ! _ Would they ?
__ Jim, here follows your-OWN words...
____ So-then if-so, then should not WE -(the REST of us) all also be enabled as well, to somehow "contribute", so as to be sure to also keep the bill paid for "our" w.site !?JimF wrote:It's not my site; I regard it as our site. We all contribute
__ So Jim, while you-yourself may not wish to accept support-donations made directly to your own-self, (which is of-course somewhat admirable),, then unless you can assure the rest of us that "our" w.site here has absolutely no concern of ever becoming in any jeopardy (of loss of accessibility, even in the very distant future),, you really then ought to somehow make for allowing SOME-way for OTHERS of us to ALSO make-sure to KEEP-the-bill-paid.
So hopefully then, you can now suggest someway(s) for at least someone-ELSE (of us members) to help make-sure that "our" website-bill stays paid-up.
____ I'm fairly sorry that this can-of-beans has become spilled out-in-the-open, like this,, but it certainly seems to be a fairly worthwhile matter to get all buttoned-up & permanently put out of contention
(so that none of us ever have-to contemplate such as "what-if").
Hopeful-CHEER,
-Bob

Good question's Bob your wheel is always turning, I'm sure Jim has a contingency plan, or you'll have to start your own...

Future-security for the Assured-continuation of "our" W.site
____ I had recently concluded that no-one was ever going to dare to touch this thread again since Jim had stated: "end of thread". _ But before the long period of lack of response here, I had expected that at least SOMEbody would follow-up on the fairly important raised-issue.
Thanks for YOUR semi-concern !
" I'm sure Jim has a contingency plan, "
____ Since Jim-himself never responded either, I guess (& hope) you're right,, but then again, I thought it possible that he-himself was taken off-guard on the matter, and thus was possibly putting-off any response until-after he had finally come-up with a trustworthy contingency-plan to relate to us and-thus put any such concerns for us-all, to final-rest.
__ In Jim's absents, I wouldn't much care to trust that his wife would carry-on with paying the bill,, however I'd be relieved to know that somebody such as fellow-member ajleone/Tony would oversee the continued support, (funded by voluntary donations), of this w.site. _ (That way, we'd then also have a sister-w.site -[ http://www.coolitalianbikes.com ], to cover non-Duke Italian-bikes, [to better cover the function of an Italian-bike "discussion group", as recently suggested by Jim-himself - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1314#p8986 ].)
__ For now, I'm left unsure as to the continued security of this w.site's future-presence remaining available on the w.w.web-net.
" or you'll have to start your own... "
____ Back in 2009, I was then expecting to start a DUCATI web-site of my-own (called 'OHC.DUCATI-Single_ONLY.info'), but about 2-months before expected launch, I learned of THIS (then new) w.site, and-so got my feet-wet here first, and-thus soon-later came to realize that I really wouldn't care to go-at-it all-alone by myself after-all,, so I abandoned my original plan & stuck to just this w.site alone, (since it was expected to almost be about as restrictive as my-own w.site had been intended to be, anyway) !
__ But I-myself am getting too-old to care much-enough and will likely bite-the-dust long before Jim likely would. _ So I'm afraid to say that the ball ought to be passed-on to someone -ELSE (in regards to what you've suggested directly-above). ...
__ I don't know how old Tony is, but I believe I find him to be a good prospect (at least for helping to prevent the ball from possibly getting dropped).
__ It seems likely that Jim would find all this concern to be unwarranted, but until he bothers to some way fully-assure us all, I believe we're likely left here with a valid concern left unresolved.
HOPEFUL-Cheers,
-Bob
