I was very pleased with how the SS1 performed in the 20KM ride in to and back from the event at high speed and the rides up the hill. It handled from 4000rpm to wide open throttle very well without any bad behaviour. Here's how the plug looked afterwards with about 70km of some hard riding on it, including the hill climb..(the plug is actually slightly browner than the picture)

Well pleased!

Looks a lot cleaner than my plugs which are always sooty . Looking at the colour marking of the earth electrode i would wonder if you have the max advance possible , But that would only apply if the motor was cut after a full throttle high rev run.

I only had time to set the advance statically Bob and didn't check what the ATU was giving me. I intend to do that when I get a chance. I didn't do an engine cutout before removing that plug, just pulled it out to have a look after a total of about 200km of use, mostly hard riding.

How much static did you give it? A 40 slide is a smaller cutaway than most use, still if it works for you---, perhaps it would work for me !. The "Choke" is not a choke, its an enrichment device which gives a light richenning effect right through the carbs operation and is there to assist you in deciding if your carb is set up right. It has no where near the effect of a choke on say an Amal .Remember the SSi is a RACE carb and racers don't use a choke .

Good spot Bob. My apologies, it was a 60 slide. I've gone back and edited my previous post containing that data. Perhaps that was a red wine night.

I put it up at 8 degrees. With a tickle ot two of the carb, and a kick though before turning the ignition on, it will start first kick 8/10.

I think I now understand the "non choke" system to some degree after experimenting with it at RPM over 6000. It does make a small difference at the top end, but it's nothing to do with starting.

8 degrees is what i set mine to-------too. I also use a 60 slide with the needle in the weakest position and a 260 atomiser with no cross drilling which is a bit of a puzzle, does anyone else have a 260 with no drilling or is this normal??.
