Ultrasonice cleaning a dellorto SS1

Postby thebossdj » Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:36 am

Hello Bevel gang.

A new question for all of you. I have green tag SS1 Carb that needs a cleaning. Has anyone ever cleaned one with an ultrasonic cleaner? Will it or can it take the anodizing off the green tag? Thank you for your help

cheers & bevel gears,

B

I wish removing anodizing was that simple- you need to send it to an anodizing plant to have the process reversed, or blast it off, like I've spent too much time doing- chemical stripping never worked for me, too much risk of damaging the aluminum.
But, I'd be surprised if the green was anodized onto the tag- more likely a silkscreened paint, and I doubt if the ultrasonic bath would damage the paint, but better get another opinion.
I've blasted a few of these carbs with walnut shells, and was able to remove the tag without damage. If your carb is stained, the ultrasonic bath may clean the body without removing the stains. I slid a blade underneath the tag, and prying the tag away from the body pulled the drive pins out.
Mine was a little beat up before I removed it, so I made the artwork to have some silkscreened, but haven't gotten to it.
I just looked at mine again, and now the green does seem really thin- not sure what it is.
