Dishwasher

I recently had to replace an older dishwasher. Rather than throwing it away I hooked it up in my basement next to my slop sink. I have run it with many aluminum engine parts, carburetor parts, and miscellaneous other motorcycle parts, and the results are good. I have had to put some of the really dirty parts through several cycles, but they eventually come out clean. Aluminum parts still need a bead-blast to look pristine, but it removes nearly all the crud, especially from the areas that will not be bead-blasted such as case internal surfaces, gasket surfaces, etc. I have been using standard dishwasher detergent on the hottest cycle. WD40 on anything steel immediately after they are removed, of course.

Thought I would pass this along as it might help someone who is looking for an inexpensive way to clean parts that does not use solvents or harsh chemicals. I'm not recommending using the primary kitchen dishwasher unless you are a bachelor or want to be one.
