Kickstart park position

Postby Geordie » Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:51 pm

I will eventually get this thing started when I sort the kickstart

The leaf spring, despite being doubled at some time in its life, was not doing its job.

I sourced a modification kit for the later bridge and coil spring. Now fitted.

Leaf or coil, I get the kickstart return spring not lifting the ratchet cog because it only returns the kickstart to just before the park position.

Is this a design feature or a problem needing a fix? If so, what is it :?: :?:

One piece of info: the plate that that engages with the ramp on the ratchet cog was chewed. I added some weld and filed its ramp to a 45 degree angle as that of the ratchet cog - couldn't see a reason for it to be any other angle. :|

Problem solved - kickstart return spring had relaxed since 1962.

I unrelaxed it to look like the parts pictures of replacements.

Tomorrow dedicated to starting after rebuild - what can possibly go wrong :?:
