Battery

Postby frankfast » Fri Aug 13, 2021 1:59 pm

Anybody know of a 12 volt battery that will fit into the rubber battery tray of a wide case single? Preferably Yuasa or similar. What is the recommended Amp/Hr for ignition and minimal lighting? Thanks.

I have been using Yuasa MF YTX7 LBS 12v batteries for some time now in both my 12v converted widecase singles ......a little smaller than the original battery... but then they are easier to get in and out :) black case which suits well, will need a little packing out with closed cell foam or rubber.
Cheers,
George

Aye frankfast,

I'm not overly worried about battery case colour and find that a Motobatt MBTZ7S works very well on my '72 450 MKIII. I have used Yuasa, but find the plates are enclined to buckle and acid levels need checking/topping up/may come out the battery breather. The Motobatt is easy to install and I use an Optimate charger to maintain it through the winter.

I am running an Electrex alternator/R+R 12v 120w conversion, H4 12v 60w/55w headlamp and an LED tail/brake light unit. Running the headlamp on dip at all times, along with the rear LED.

I use closed cell foam to make a tray for the battery to sit in, in the original Ducati battery tray and 5mm shock cord to secure the battery, rather than the OME rubber strap that is now perished. Images can be posted if needed.

Good health, Bill
