A supplier of small parts is L Richardson. Laurie 37 @ntlworld .com. He has a list ,mostly made in stainless. Very reasonable. My Engine is about 200 before yours. Frame number is most unlikely to match the engine as they never did !. Frame number sometimes found on rhs of central spine behind the carb belmouth. Very faintly marked easily covered with paint.

If you are in Witney, you could reach out to the Ex DOC Berkshire branch rep Brian Silver. He used to run Moto Marianna before he retired & is an absolute expert on narrow case singles. He also has a knack for finding impossible parts & obviously he can tell what you need to look for. He is in Bracknell. He found me a 150mph speedo & a 150mm headlight for my Mach1. They had both been removed when the bike was raced & are like hens teeth to source these days.

Re: Help required identifying parts for 250 Mk3 project
Thanks for the advice on contacts and potential sources for parts.
I've now identified and ordered the vast majority of the parts I need.
I did make contact with the previous owner, who happily is alive and well and runs a motorcycle workshop in the Nottingham area. He still had the seat that we thought had been lost, and also the full Electrex ignition and 12v conversion kit which I bought at a fair price.
He'd owned the bike since 2012, did most of the work 5-6 years ago, but didn't want to discuss why it wasn't finished and was sold. He has been very helpful otherwise though.
I've had parcels from Laceys, Classic Ducati, Ducati Vintage, a few bits from eBay sellers in the US, a couple of things on their way from Recambio Usado, and an original chain guard and filler cap coming from a Facebook contact in Italy.
The things I haven't found so far are a steering damper, and the Aprilia horn/dip switch.
I have the 150mph original speedo (touch optimistic!) but it's knackered. I bought a NOS speedo on eBay which I thought might do, but not sure if it will be the same gearing/ratio - it's marked as 1610 revs = 1M.
If not, then maybe I can use it as a source of parts to have the original repaired.
Will start work soon, fitting the clutch and alternator, to then get the engine casings on and fill it with oil.

Re: Help required identifying parts for 250 Mk3 project
A further update. I decided to have the engine checked before continuing to build it, and went to see Craig Ridgely last weekend. Just as well as when we split the cases we found it was shiny on the outside, shitty on the inside. Full rebuild required - big end, re-bore and new piston, valves and guides, all bearings, second gear. I already had the full Electrex kit, and uprated clutch kit from Lacey's.
As I can't get a couple of parts for the Dell'orto SS1 at the moment, I think I'll get an Amal concentric to get it going. I used to have a 30mm on my 250 Desmo years ago, is that the right size as a replacement for the SS1 29?

Interesting, Absolutely amazed that the engine is in poor shape internaly, It defies logic that the outside appears so good. Perhaps the owner intended to build a show only bike. I should not be surprised as I have been fooled a couple of times in the past. Being such a pretty bike and not particularly practical as a regular rider its a good subject for a static exhibit. Glad you are going to ride it. See you out there !!.

You all should read an article in "Classic Bike" October 2012. A story I have heard many times , A Ducati single looking as if it has been restored with a flashy paint job but leaving its new owner with very poor mechanicals . Often the bikes come from a vendor in a triangle between Liestershire the east coast and London. There is one or more rogue restorers out there taking advantage of unsuspecting newcomers to the scene. My suspicion is that it could even be an established MC shop doing the work with the bikes being then sold privately. It even happened to me with many coincidenses to the bike in the article. If is does not start, run and ride well its still not far from a basket case and should be half price.
