oil pump gear vs. ignition gear question
Guys (and Gals): I am building a 450 (spring head) and have a question about the timing marks. The bevel gear marks , both top and bottom align every seventh rotation, but after the original setting, the marks on the oil pump gear and the ignition gear never seem to realign. They are two teeth off after the 28 revolution. Is this right? Also, attached is a photo of two pieces that I found on the floor the day after I took the side cover off. Do they belong in this engine? If so, where? Yes, I looked in the out-of-focus parts books I have. Thanks in advance. Eddie

Eddie
Regarding the oil pump idler gear marks, it doesn't matter as long as they are aligned to start with. The relationship is between the crank and the timing shaft which is a two to one ratio.
The small coupling goes between the rev counter drive box and the slot in the end of the cam. The rubber is found in the rocker cover, two in the engine. As to what it does, most likely to direct oil into the rocker and possibly a sound deadener.
Hope that helps
Regards Nigel
