Valve clearances 175T 1957?

Postby Ventodue » Mon Jul 27, 2020 7:29 am

I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who is as confused as I am ... :?

I've had a trawl thru previous posts on the Forum without any luck.

What are the correct valve clearances for a 1957 175T? We have so found 3 references, i.e. a 125 owners manual; a 200 owner's manual; and the workshop manual for the 100/125/175/200 range, that say 0.05/0.07mm.

And 3 references, i.e. owners manuals for the 175 Sport; for the 200 range (a different manual from the previous); and (again a different manual) for the 125 that say 0.5/0.7mm.

So a ten-fold difference, presumably originating from an editor's slip-of-the-pen :o .

Can someone please put us out of our joint misery: which is correct?

TIA!

Hi

0.5 mm is 20 thou (0.020") so I can't see that being right, unless you want to hear the bike coming :) .

.05 mm sounds better at 0.002".

My 125TS runs OK with the lesser clearances.
Cheers

Max

Cheers, Max. Thanks for the reply.

Had had the same thought: 0.5mm must = slappy, noisy clearances, I mean. I will pass your advice on.

(I'm surprised not to have seen this enormous discrepancy in the factory literature commented on before ...)
