I want to buy a headlight reflector (the mirrored parabolic thing) for a 150mm headlight (6") but I am using an LED high power emitter so I want one that has a small round reflective thing-a-ma-bob directly above the light bulb.
This thing, whatever it is, bounces light backward at the parabola again.
I can't find a reflector with one these (ebay) but not knowing what they call that thing is surely not helping my search.
I had one on the bike but it was destroyed in the great crash of 2014.
Thanks for any help with the name of that thing.
Jim

If you want a bright light at the front so folk can see YOU then a good LED will do that with most reflectors, if however you ride on unlit roads and want to see where the road is then the bulb and reflector need to be properly matched otherwise its just a lottery.

Hi Jim,

do you mean this part? This one is part of a BMW /6 160mm headlight. In german it`s called "Blendlöffel". I found no good translation, though. "Löffel" = "spoon", "Blenden" is "masking, dazzling".
cheers Hans

Thanks Hans!
Yes, that's what I am talking about. It's a shame for me that's a 160mm reflector.
I will try your search words.
Thanks again.

Hi Jim,
Ah, that's the bit your'e talking about! Thank you, Hans!
It's called a 'glare guard' or 'glare shield'. Not surprisingly, you're not the first to have confronted the problem with LEDS, and it would seem you can make your own ...
. Have a look here, for example:

And there's even a Youtube vid

P.s The BMW-type ones always snap just like that ... at least, when fitted to Laverda SF2s
.
Btw, good old-fashioned halogen lamps deal with the problem by simply having their tips obscured in gray or black.
