Hi, I am rebuilding a 350 Mototrans Ducati with coil spring head, and have picked up a replacement camshaft - an "Old Racing Parts" 01X0061 which they specify for quite a few models - and I am up for some experimentation... My question is does it need a roll pin to block the oil way as per the original cam shaft? and also the oilway does not go all the way through the camshaft as it does on the original, does that matter? - any thoughts much appreciated.
i have attached a photo
regards
Tim

Re: camshaft oil way
The small hole in the roll pin allows some oil to spray round for the gears which otherwise may not get much. The roll pin restricts the flow to ensue the lobes get a bit more. I would carry this feature on. It has worked well for me.

Re: camshaft oil way
I’m a bit puzzled by the pic of your Mototrans cam. Every Ducati single cam I’ve ever observed had the roll pin in the threaded end of the cam. If you’re showing the same end of both cams, it appears that the roll pin is installed in the opposite end. Is this correct?
Are you saying that the ORS cam has no oil passage at the threaded end? I.E. oil can only exit the cam from the oil holes in the cam lobes?
Matt

Hi Matt, sorry will be clearer - yes you are right the ODS cam is only drilled as far as the exit points on the lobes - it is the one on the left in the photo.
The original cam is on the right and has a pin blocking the oilway, and both cams are facing threaded side down so you are looking at the oil feed end.
The original cam is drilled all the way through to the threaded end, and has two pins blocking the exit making a very small hole
Would the ODS cam be ok to use as it is?
thanks
Tim

Re: camshaft oil way
the ODS cam if fine as it is . the oil gets on the camshaflobes now where it is needed and not pissing true the cam .
dont worry about the bevelgears not getting oil . oil will seep true the 6202 bearing and lubricate the bevelgears .
lots of racing camshafts dont have the oilway drilled all the way .
