31.5 forks

Postby Bevel bob » Mon Sep 07, 2015 11:24 am

oil has been leaking past the top nuts on the forks, these have an O ring of sorts fitted, do we know what size this is? Also there seems to be little damping going on ,do the dampa parts wear? Is it a reasonable job to strip these?. 12 laps of Jurby circuit IOM was a bit of an eye opener .

the Ducati part number for the oring is 0460.37.478 and is only listed as being 17.5mm that is the ID so if you measure the ID of the fork tube that should be what you need for the OD of the oring.
it would probably be best to take them apart and have a look inside if you don't think they are working properly.
the dampening valve has a few different designs. My forks have the kind that has the ball bearings staked in a few of the holes. They came loose and were in the bottom of my fork legs. Some have no holes there at all and I believe some have all active ball bearings in the holes. it is possible you have lost some of the ball bearings or maybe too much oil has leaked out to dampen.

the pistons also wear especially if your tubes aren't perfectly straight. when you take them out look at them for signs of wear usually will be on one side of the piston. also measure them to see if they are round.
