Monza 160 Jr Carb

Postby Ducatikid » Mon May 13, 2013 5:22 pm

In rebuilding my late model 160 Monza Jr. my original carb (UB22BS) is bad. Trying to find a replacement is, of course, vital to getting my engine running again. I haven't seen a new or used UB22 anywhere. So, what are the alternative carbs I can get my hands on and use in place of the Dell'Orto ??? Thanks for any advice or instructions. The Kid

Hey Kid,

Lots of them for sale in the UK and Italy on their eBays:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/dellorto-carb ... 27d2b5e4cd

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dellorto-UB-2 ... 1e7aabe2c4

Lots and lots and lots.... too many for me to copy and paste!

Hope this helps.

____ Since you seem willing to make-use of a non-stock carb,, then how-about one that's not-only more modern, but also with down-to-earth pricing ? ...
__ I suggest a carb.model from a 125 to 185 Honda-single, such as the likes-of... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-1975-Honda ... 4e&vxp=mtr , or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CB125-Car ... 9d&vxp=mtr , but not necessarily either of THOSE two examples. _ Just search for such on eBay.
__ I believe the carb.models intended for 125-Hondas are 24mm, while those for 185-models may be 26mm. _ And while the 185-model carbs are with a diameter-size that's a bit over-sized, THEY ought-to be already jetted close-enough.
__ The only problem which causes carbs such as these from being a straight-forward bolt-on job, is that their manifold-flange stud-holes will need to be enlarged by drilling-out their pair of 6.5mm mounting-holes only-just towards the direction required for matching-up to the slightly-different stud-spacing of that of the 8mm-studs in the 160-head. _ And that job can be done simply enough with the carb.body viced-down on a drill-press, with a 21/64ths drill-bit.

Hopeful-Cheers,
-Bob
PLEASE NOTE... If this-post is not-yet signed-off with '-Bob', then I'm still in the process of completing it,, and if not also included with 'DCT' near bottom as well, then I may edit this post's wording at a later time. - Dct.Bob

OK guys, I appreciate the thinking here and the suggestions. I don't have alot of cash to throw at this 160 jr. I realize that I can go to Europe and probably get anything I need for this bike, but, it would be expensive with the shipping and plus "buyer beware" awareness. That said, I like Bob's ideas too. I just want to make this bike a runner to have fun with and not a Concour's show bike. Besides, at this point and time, it's the only Ducati I can enjoy and it's special to see it come along as I work on it (I have to as I can't afford otherwise),but, It would be nice to hear it run.....actually, it would be thrilling! I've had this bike for 8 years and it's just now starting to look like the real deal from '67. It's been a long row to hoe.....Thanks everyone. Tom
