Starting a restoration of a Sport 48, imported from the mother land a few years ago.

Plenty of miles on the crank:

Is the Cylinder cast iron or alloy?
How did you repair it?

Graeme, one piece cast iron, not repaired yet, but will need to be resleeved. Probably a thin wall sleeve.

Thanks Stan.
Is there enough metal to bore the whole thing out to remove all the cracked bits and shrink a thick liner in?
Regards
Graeme

Fantastic Ducati! I have a falcon and this is motivation. Do you know what the differences are between the Sport 48 and the Falcon 50? I would love to find a seat like the Sport 48.

G, a full skirt removal will show light between the fins.
From photos, it looks like the Falcon is more of a scrambler version of the sporty Sport.

Stopped in for the open house yesterday and the 48 was the first thing that grabbed my eye. Work done thus far (more than pictured here) looks great. Pitty about the plater losing some parts. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks, ST3.
Did we talk?

I was lucky to find a piston and ring set from Classic Italian Bikes in the Netherlands.
Amazing re-sleeve by Northhampton Crank! The sleeve is a half-thickness thin -wall, if the whole sleeve was bored out, you would see air between the fins!

White CAD parts are back, time to lace the wheels:

Improvised truing stand. The wheel has bicycle type loose ball bearings:

I'm getting ready for chassis assembly, when I get a few more parts back from the chrome plater:

Shimmed crank for no center case gasket. To test the trans required each shaft to be pulled abutted to it's respective ball-race bearing. The countershaft is pulled by the countershaft sprocket and collar (pull right), a PVC collar was fashioned for the main shaft (pull left).

A drift allows the shift arm to shift through the gears.

Bottom end now together, hand cut base gasket.

The original seat rivets and tabs were white CAD plated, ready to be assembled. Top end ready to run.
