Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

Is it a brass or alloy rotor? if brass sometimes a few smart taps with a copper hammer on the face of the rotor (not the rim) at its outer edge has a marginal levering effect and in combination with heat (the hair dryer is not hot enough) and extractor pressure may work, if its an alloy rotor try t...

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

Applied heat with hairdryer, sharp blows on bolt head. No luck. Will leave on tight and try again Monday

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

As expected I'm having trouble removing flywheel alternator rotor. Tightened removal tool bolt to extreme. Any tips welcome. Time for cup of tea.

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

Time for an update. No luck finding 20 mm carb. inlet flange yet, will keep looking. Not enough metal to open 18 mm flange. Having obtained special tools, time to split cases. Spent a lot of time trying to undo crankshaft alternator nut yesterday stopped before I damaged engine or myself. Started fr...

Re: Mach 1-noisy top end

Hi Nigel, Thank you so much for your detailed approach to getting my issue sorted. I've just removed the barrel and I'm relieved to say that there is absolutely no up/down movement with the con rod. Looking on your website, I have noticed that you have aluminium base shims, what would you opt for t...

Jon Pegler wrote:Hi George,

Your carb looks to be from a 160TS model.
All the jets etc. appear to be correct .
You should be able to get the bike started with this carburettor.

Thanks Jon

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

With Jon's help we have established that I have early 1960s Mototrans 125TS engine with 125 sport cam, piston and 20 mm carb instead of 18mm carb. Stripped carburettor Amal 375 20. I would say that all jets, needle, float and float valve are new. inside spotless. Cylinder Head has 20 mm inlet tract,...

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

I'll second that, there are just too many pitfalls in restoring shocks. When I buy the correct length shocks for my Stada, I'm probably going for NJB shocks; anything to keep the cost down! Dismantled shocks. not worth repairing. The Betor shocks offered on Guzman website look the same as original ...

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

I now have an extended 125 centre stand thanks to Jon. With slight alteration all fitted to frame. Rear shocks stripped. Shafts are scored. My thoughts are that by the time I find internal parts, new rubbers and have shrouds chromed I might just as well buy new replacements. Jesus Guzman have look-a...

Re: 175TS with 125S engine project

The stand on my 175 measures approx 220mm from the centre of the pivot to the centre of the spur used to deploy it. This puts the tyre approx 35mm off the ground when on the stand. I have to say that I sometimes just lean the bike against the fence as it’s pretty light. 110kg dry when I weighed it....
