Re: Conrod kits ?

Hi Eldert, Not trying to hijack this thread.....but.....do you have experience of the rod kits from 'the ducati vintage store' it seems unclear (to me) if these kits are genuine ducati or a re-manufactured copy, you mention a little machining required ?? would you use one of these in a hard used roa...

Re: checking engine oil pressure

I always remove the left hand camshaft bearing housing by removing the camshaft nut and then using the cam itself as a drift for a couple of millimeters of travel to dislodge the left side cover, so the slug in the oil way of the cam (for me) is not a problem, I never had great results using the rod...

Re: checking engine oil pressure

Hi, Same as Nigel, I have never knowingly ran a ducati single engine desmo or springer without doing the restriction slug mod on the bevel end of the camshaft.....it just makes sense to force the oil through the working/rubbing areas of the cam instead of giving it an easy path out at the bevel end,...

Re: 250 noisy top end

If it were me, I would run the engine until it was at least a little warm and then drop the engine oil into a clean drain pan, look for any metal sparkles in the oil.....if the oil is clean......well that's a good sign that things are maybe ok.....but.....if there is ANY metal in the oil take the he...

1975 250 desmo rebuild

Hi all, Really pleased to advise all who provided invaluable help and advice over the last few months that the baby desmo is once more alive and kicking (back!), got it fired up for the first time after nearly 26 years last night....first kick it gave me a nasty kick back, second kick and it was run...

Re: Oil pump screws

I have opened a few ducati single engines and found no locking wire on the oil pump screws and they were still all tight, however I would never run one of these engines without lock wiring the pump screws and for good measure I also put a little loctite thread locker on the screws as well! better sa...

Re: TS 175 fork seals..how to release them ?

Wrap a strip of rubber round the seal holder, then fit a worm drive hose clip over the rubber and tighten up, then use an oil filter chain wrench or strap wrench to remove.
Cheers,
George

Re: widecase desmo disc speedo drive

Same as Jordan, I have repaired several of these with a damaged or broken tang by silver soldering a new bit of steel on.
Cheers,
George

Re: widecase desmo disc speedo drive

Hi Eldert, I have what I hope is the original speedo drive gearbox for this bike, but I didn't know the ratio.......what I am trying to do is replace the rubbish original smiths speedo head with a better quality 1960s black face 100mph smiths speedo head from a bsa b40 which I believe is a 2/1 ratio...
